History of Tourtour
The village itself dates from the XIIth century.

Three different ramparts are still visible : the oldest protects the old medieval castle and the first houses to be built, the second mostly seen on rue des caves with XIVth century and XVIIth century doors, go as far as the Grande rue and the Place des Ormeaux ; the third XVIIth century wall englobes the communal castle and the chapel of Ste Trinite. To the north the walls constitute houses and the south, terraces and gardens. The two castles, the doors, the maze of streets and squares have changed little since middle age.

The village is dominated by the roman architecture of the church of St Denis, next to it is the panoramic map provinding information on the most amazing wiew. Finally next to the communal castle one can find two bronze sculptures by the artist Bernard Buffet, donated by his wife. Tourtour was the village in wich he spent the last twenty years of his life.
